Sri Nihal Tammana
Sri Nihal Tammana is the 15-year-old founder of Recycle My Battery, a nonprofit committed to protecting the environment by promoting sustainable battery disposal. Recognizing that batteries are indispensable yet harmful when discarded improperly, Nihal began collecting used batteries from his school and local community, only to realize the need for a larger, more organized effort. This led him to create Recycle My Battery, which focuses on education and accessibility as its core strategies. The organization installs recycling bins with free two-way shipping in high-traffic areas, thanks to its partnership with Call2Recycle, and raises awareness through outreach efforts.
Under Nihal’s leadership, the organization has recycled over 585,000 used batteries and reached more than 35 million people, with the help of a dedicated team of over 750 youth volunteers. His initiative is a powerful example of how young people can take meaningful action to fight climate change and environmental degradation.
