July 2026 Young Planet Leader Kavya Gangasani
Kavya Gangasani is a student nonprofit founder and aspiring healthcare leader from Los Altos, California. She is the Founder and Executive Director of Bay Area Medical Explorers (BAME), a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to healthcare education, mentorship, and service opportunities for underserved youth. After conducting research and a community survey that revealed financial and structural barriers preventing many students from accessing healthcare opportunities, she founded BAME to help make mentorship, healthcare exposure, and career exploration more accessible regardless of background or financial circumstance.
Under her leadership, BAME has expanded to over 20 chapters, more than 500 student members, and over 700,000 people reached through outreach and advocacy initiatives. Through mentorship programs, STEM workshops, research initiatives, community service projects, and blood drives, Kavya works to create opportunities for students interested in medicine while empowering young people to become leaders and changemakers within their communities. Her long-term goal is to improve healthcare accessibility and one day open a hospital.
